Eagles’ Lane Johnson Sends Bold Message on Potential Breakout Star
The Philadelphia Eagles have some household names on their defensive line, and Moro Ojomo is about to become another, according to legendary offensive lineman Lane Johnson.
The longtime Eagles offensive lineman shared some high praise about Ojomo while participating in joint practices with the Cleveland Browns this week.
Ojomo is set to enter his third NFL season and played every game a year ago, posting 20 tackles and had one sack in four playoff games a year ago.
What Did Lane Johnson Say About Moro Ojomo?
Though he played at Texas and was a seventh-round pick of the Eagles in 2023, playing alongside superstar D-linemen Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith — the ninth and No. 30 overall picks of Ojoro’s draft class — will get any players overshadowed.
But even though he is set to enter the penultimate year of his four-year rookie contract, Ojomo is on the Eagles depth chart as a starting defensive lineman replacing Milton Williams, who signed a four-year, $104 million contract with the New England Patriots this off-season.
Yet, according to one of the offensive linemen that has been going against him during training camp, Ojoro is poised to have a huge season in 2025 — and has the potential to achieve Williams-caliber play.
“Moro, I think Moro is really doing well,” Johnson said to reporters Wednesday. “Obviously [Jalen Carter] is who he is, but Moro is probably one of the more slept on guys.”
The 6-3, 292-pound defensive lineman helped the Eagles lead the NFL in yards-against per game in 2024 (278.4). Yet, part of his underratedness is the fact Ojomo does not have a regular-season sack, nor does he have breakout stats — like Carter, who finished with 4.5 sacks in 2024 and has 10.5 in his career.
But Williams did not pad his stats either since he had just 11.5 sacks with the Eagles, Ojoro has had an unheralded career, stat-wise.
So given the fact Ojomo had a sack in Philadelphia’s win over the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round last year. Plus, he appears poised to further improve on his 2024 stats, as he did from the 2023 season, based on his work ethic, which Johnson made sure to point out.
“Take it from me, man, he’s the real deal,” Johnson said. “Works his tail off, probably one of the hardest workers we have.”
How Has Moro Ojomo Shown His Growth In Training Camp?
Nick Tricome of Philly Voice has reported on Ojomo’s growth, which confirms what Johnson also detailed. Ojomo has been wrecking the Eagles offensive practices, which made the joint practices against Cleveland beneficial since Philadelphia’s starters could get some work done.
“He’s barreled down with constant pressure, forcing quarterback Jalen Hurts to act quick or leave the pocket in full 11-on-11 reps,” Nick Tricome reported on Ojomo, “and has often looked like he’s given the first-string offensive line all it can handle, especially when it’s already plenty busy worrying about Carter next to him.”
That play has led to bold conversations about what Ojomo could end up doing this year.
“Ojomo has definitely kept Johnson’s attention,” Tricome said, “and might garner alert from a whole lot of the league’s other offensive tackles real soon.”
