Detroit Lions Announce Major Jared Goff News After Beating Bengals
Posted October 6, 2025
The Detroit Lions just won their fourth game of the 2025-26 season, and they’re officially on fire. The team was on the road on Sunday, October 5, and to paly a high-profile game against the Cincinnati Bengals on the road, and they pulled off a definitive win, 37-24. Even the Bengals have to hand it to the Lions for how well they played in a road game, saying that “quarterback Jake Browning pumped three fourth-quarter touchdown passes, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Lions‘ No. 1 scoring offense in Detroit’s 37-24 victory.”
Now that the game is over, the numbers are rolling in, and the Detroit Lions have some news on Jared Goff. It’s obvious that Goff has been a big piece of the puzzle to get the Lions to where they are today. Even without offensive coordinator Ben Johnson in the fold, Goff has shown that he’s a top tier quarterback and keeps pulling off wins this season, with the team now 4-1.
What’s wild is that after the Philadelphia Eagle and Buffalo Bills losses over the weekend, no NFL team is undefeated. So, the Lions are tied for the best record in the NFL.
Jared Goff News From the Detroit Lions
After the game, the Detroit Lions made a major, and positive, Goff announcement. The team’s PR account on X shared a post stating, “Lions QB Jared Goff ha
s tied an NFL record by completing 70% of his passes in six-straight road games.” That’s super impressive.
It’s not uncommon for Goff to break records, but to see him tie a record that’s not just for the Lions franchise but for the NFL as a whole is extra special. The Lions have a winner in Goff, and not to jinx it, but this could be the year.
“Most underrated QB in football,” one commenter said in the post. “And people still claim that he’s a fraud,” another joked, noting that he’s obviously the real deal.
The Lions also shared that Goff was their “Player of the Game.” One follower commented, “Great win guys…keep biting them kneecaps.” Another said, “When teamwork comes together with grit, anything is possible.”
Last season, Goff had a career-best 72.4% completion rate. So, he’s still on fire. During Sunday’s game, he had 19-of-23 completed passes (82.6%) for 258 yards, three TDs and no interceptions. It was a clean game.
Jared Goff is Finally Getting Attention
It’s about time that Goff gets some attention. In the NFL’s Week 5 power rankings, out on Tuesday, September 30, and Eric Edholm has the Lions at No. 3, and Goff is a big part of that.
“Detroit was not prolific offensively against Cleveland, but no one has been this season,” Edholm states in the piece. Still, this is the second time in four games where the Lions have been kept somewhat grounded on offense, even if they’ve taken good care of the football. Committing five offensive penalties was out of character, and Detroit’s still trying to hone the connection between Jared Goff and Jameson Williams.”
It would be great to see more connections between Goff and Williams, as he mentions, but a win is a win, and we’ll take it. The Detroit Lions are roaring, and the NFL is listening.
Chiefs’ Offense Needs to Secure This Elusive Goal Before Unleashing Spags
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Take it from a former college pitcher whose dad pitched in the Major Leagues. The Kansas City Chiefs have an All-Star closer.
He’s a savvy right-hander named Steve Spagnuolo.
“And you always see when we get leads, he's great,” Patrick Mahomes said last month. “He's a great finisher. He's a great closer, being able to give you different looks and stuff like that.”
Any closer, of course, is inconsequential without something very important: A lead. That’s why Mahomes enters every week with the urgency to put points on the board early and often. Securing an early lead takes pressure off the Chiefs’ defense, transferring that pressure to the opponent.
The elusive offensive accomplishment
So, when the Chiefs (2-2) square off with the Jaguars (3-1) on Monday Night Football (7:15 p.m. CT, ESPN/ABC, KMBC Ch. 9, 96.5 The Fan), Kansas City will seek something that’s proven painfully elusive this season: A touchdown on its first drive.

The Chiefs entered this week as one of just five NFL teams without an opening-drive touchdown. Buffalo, meanwhile, has touchdowns on its initial possession in every game.
Why Andy Reid said Spags came out of his shoes last week
Kansas City appears to be moving in a good direction, though. The Chiefs have posted field goals on their opening drives in each of their last two games. And in last week’s 37-20 win over Baltimore, Kansas City’s defense was happy to play a complementary role – until the unit’s final snap, Justice Hill’s 71-yard touchdown run.
“Yeah, I thought the guys played really, really good, solid football,” Spagnuolo said Friday. “The only play I'm going to remember about the game is going to be the last one, because that's just what sticks in my head.
“But prior to that, the things that we did and the way we played, and fourth downs were really important, but obviously the focus was on the running back, to get that done first. And then try to get them, in the game to our offense’s credit, they got some points on the board and we were able to dictate a little bit.”

The focus on the running back led to Derrick Henry finishing with only 42 yards. On Monday night, the Chiefs will need a similar focus to shut down Travis Etienne, a task too tall for most teams this year.
Etienne in last week’s win at San Francisco rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown, becoming the only NFL player this year with 120-plus rushing yards in multiple games. He entered this week third in the league with 394 rushing yards.
Obviously, the Chiefs can’t allow Etienne to get outside like Hill did at the end of last week’s game.

“It was a step forward for us,” defensive tackle Chris Jones said after last week’s win. “Unfortunately, at the end of the game, we gave up a huge run.
“We have to learn to close games, whether it’s the ones, twos or the guys that normally don’t get those high-volume reps. We’ve got to close games. I think we took a step forward as a team on offense, defense and special teams. For me, it’s a step toward progression.”
