Dan Quinn Remains Non-committal on Sam Cosmi’s Status for Week 7 vs. Cowboys
Ahead of the Washington Commanders' Week 7 game against the Dallas Cowboys, we still don't know about Sam Cosmi's availability.
Head coach Dan Quinn met with the media early Friday and took questions. After declaring that wide receiver Terry McLaurin would not be available for Sunday against the Cowboys, Quinn was asked about Cosmi, who's yet to play this season. Cosmi has been in heavy rehab mode for months, recovering from his torn ACL in the playoff win against the Detroit Lions in January.
Not ruling out a return by Cosmi, Quinn was very clear, he was not going to lean one way or the other during the press conference. He was rather neutral, simply stating that Cosmi "had a really good week" and that there would be a meeting later today where they would discuss whether Cosmi would make his return in Dallas against the Cowboys.
Some may respond that McLaurin was supposed to be trending upward and was practicing this week as well. On the other hand, we just don't know what his knee looks like following Cosmi pushing himself these last two weeks. In addition, we've not heard anything from any medical personnel or team trainers. So, we can't even speculate what Quinn's statement to the media might indicate which direction he is leaning himself in making a decision on Cosmi.
Quinn is usually quite the positive person, and if Quinn knew Cosmi was ready, one would be reasonable to conclude that Quinn would have a difficult time not being "pumped" about Cosmi being back in the lineup Sunday. The head coach is usually pumped about someone or something and likes informing the media and fan based that he is "pumped."
Remember, there is a 21-day window where the Commanders have to activate Cosmi or he goes on injured reserve and is lost for the season. In just a few days, that window expires.

Yuma, AZ - October 15, 2025 - Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has publicly praised 9-year-old Zayin Berry of Yuma, Arizona, for his courageous act of saving a cat from abuse at a local skatepark. Berry, who recently earned the title of "ASPCA Kid of the Year," traded his own skateboard to ensure the safety of a helpless animal, a gesture that has earned him widespread admiration.
"I've heard a lot about Zayin's incredible act, and I think it's just amazing," Duran said in an emotional statement. The young boy's selfless actions not only saved the cat's life but also brought attention to the importance of compassion and standing up for those who cannot protect themselves.
"I just wanted to make sure Peaches was okay," Zayin said in a statement. "I knew I had to help her, so I gave up my skateboard. It felt like the right thing to do."
Duran, who has been an advocate for community service and positive role models, shared his admiration for Zayin's bravery. "It's people like Zayin who make the world better," Duran added. "He didn't think twice about doing what was right, even if it meant giving something important to him. That's the kind of character we need more of."
