The Dallas Cowboys are hoping they won’t be plagued by injuries like they were in the 2024 campaign, but like every team across the league, they have a couple of players on the mend as training camp rolls forward. One of those players is star cornerback Trevon Diggs, who is recovering from offseason knee surgery.
Diggs has spent the start of training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List, but he continues to make progress in his quest to get back on the field for Dallas. According to a recent report, the Cowboys are quite excited with what they have seen from Diggs, which could spell good news in his quest to get activated from the PUP list.
Trevon Diggs Working His Way Back to Action for Cowboys
Dallas selected Diggs in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he immediately earned a starting role in their secondary. Diggs went through some growing pains as a rookie, but he still showcased the promise that convinced the Cowboys he was a prospect worth using a high draft pick on.
In 2021, Diggs enjoyed his breakout campaign, as he racked up a league-leading 11 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. The strong season earned Diggs the first Pro Bowl selection of his career, in addition to a spot on the All-Pro First Team. Diggs wasn’t as good in 2022, but he still earned the second Pro Bowl selection of his career.
Diggs suffered a torn ACL in 2023, which limited him to just two games and cut into his 2024 campaign. While he returned in 2024, Diggs was hampered by a knee injury all season long, and he eventually decided to undergo surgery over the offseason. While the star cornerback is still recovering from this surgery, the team is reportedly “ecstatic” with the progress he’s been making as of late.
“I’m hearing conversations centered around the Cowboys being ‘ecstatic’ with Trevon Diggs’ rehab process,” Ernie The Cowboys Fan shared in a post on X.
Cowboys Hoping Trevon Diggs Can Put Together Bounce Back Campaign in 2025
With Diggs and DaRon Bland, the Cowboys could have one of the top cornerback duos in the league. Injuries have plagued both of these guys throughout their careers, though, so the team is going to want to see them both stay healthy in 2025. If they can accomplish that, they should gradually be able to get their feet back underneath them and hopefully rediscover their All-Pro form.
Whether or not Diggs is going to be ready in time for Week 1 of the regular season remains to be seen, but the work he’s putting in behind the scenes is catching the attention of his team. And assuming he keeps on checking off the boxes the Cowboys and their medical personnel are putting in place, Diggs should be back on the field sooner rather than later, as he looks to help Dallas get back on track after a disappointing 2024 season.
