Cowboys Make Final Decision on Trevon Diggs in Week 8
For the Cowboys, not having one of the team’s most expensive defensive players on the field for the Week 8 matchup in Denver is surely a bad thing. Right?

Well, yes and no. Of course, the Cowboys would like a full, healthy version of cornerback Trevon Diggs to be lined up against a team like the Broncos–who are 5-2 and winners of four straight games–as Dallas seeks to capitalize on the momentum gained from the 44-22 drubbing of the Commanders in Week 7.
The problem is, Diggs did not play in that game against Washington, having gone out with a mysterious concussion he suffered in his house a week ago. And without Diggs, the Cowboys had one of their better defensive days this season, forcing two turnovers for the first time this year and holding Washington to 341 yards and a season-low 18 first downs.
Diggs has not practiced this week, still hampered by concussion symptoms. And on Friday, the team ruled he won’t be on the field on Sunday in Week 8.
Trevon Diggs Officially Ruled Out
Also not playing on Sunday is safety Donovan Wilson, who has struggled badly this season, too. Wrote Jon Machota of The Athletic on Twitter/X on Friday:
“Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs (concussion/knee) has been officially ruled out for Sunday in Denver. Safety Donovan Wilson has also been ruled out. Center Cooper Beebe, LT Tyler Guyton are questionable.”
Wilson is the No. 78 ranked safety in Pro Football Focus’ list of grades this season, out of 84 total safeties in the NFL. Diggs is the No. 63 cornerback, out of 112.
Cowboys Played Best D in Week 7
Despite Diggs’ struggles this year, there is some irony in him being out just now. That’s because Diggs has been the most outspoken critic within the team of the defense being run by defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, whose zone-heavy coverage tamped down the effectiveness of Diggs and fellow star corner DaRon Bland.
Diggs was asked three weeks ago whether the Cowboys should run more man and he responded, “Yeah. Yeah.”
He described playing in Eberflus’s defense as, “Being comfortable being uncomfortable. One of those type things.”
But Eberflus and the Cowboys went to far more man coverage in Week 7 against Washington, running it nearly half the time (after having done so only about 10% of the time before the Washington game). And Diggs was not there to take advantage.
Cowboys Won’t ‘Dwell’ on Trevon Diggs
He won’t be there on Sunday, either. The Cowboys had been expressing confidence that he would be back for Week 8, but concussions can be unpredictable. Especially Diggs’ concussion, which was the subject of speculation because it did not happen on the field.
Team owner Jerry Jones said he was not planning to “dwell” on Diggs’s situation anymore.
“There’s no reason to dwell on it anymore,” Jones said. “What we did see is we played pretty well out there. So I don’t know the status of Diggs as we move forward, but I feel better about being able to play if we don’t have him out there.”
HEARTWARMING STORY: Jordan Love Launches "Puppy Haven" Sanctuary for Stray Dogs in Green Bay

GREEN BAY — In a world where athletes are often defined by their on-field performances, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love

On September 29, Love opened the doors of “Puppy Haven,” a $5 million sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating homeless dogs in Green Bay. The sanctuary aims to provide stray dogs with the care, shelter, and love they desperately need. "There are so many dogs left on the streets, uncared for, and without hope," Love said during the grand opening. "They deserve to be protected, healed, and given a home."
Located in the heart of the city, Puppy Haven will offer a safe haven for dogs, featuring top-tier facilities including 24/7 veterinary services, a spay/neuter program, and recovery areas where dogs can heal both physically and emotionally. The sanctuary is designed to create a safe environment for animals in need, offering not only shelter but the hope of finding a loving family.
The mission of Puppy Haven goes beyond just providing shelter. Love has vowed to make sure the dogs receive proper medical attention, socialization, and rehabilitation before being rehomed. “This isn’t just about saving lives; it’s about restoring dignity to these animals. They deserve to feel loved and wanted,” Love said, visibly emotional during the opening ceremony.
While the sanctuary was built with a significant investment, the real value lies in the difference it will make in the lives of countless stray dogs. The initiative is a testament to Love’s deep compassion and commitment to his community. “I’ve always believed in using my platform for good,” he continued. “The biggest victory I can have isn’t in a game, it’s in seeing these little creatures find hope again.”
The Puppy Haven sanctuary has already received overwhelming support from animal lovers across Green Bay and beyond. The local community, including fellow Packers players and fans, have rallied behind the cause, donating funds, supplies, and their time. The grand opening event also featured a series of adoption drives and partnerships with local animal rescue groups, helping to spread awareness of the sanctuary’s mission.
Love is no stranger to giving back, having been involved in various charitable endeavors over the years. However, this new chapter in his life marks a significant turning point as he continues to channel his passion for helping those in need — both human and animal alike.
“The work is just beginning,” Love added. “This is just the start. There are so many more animals who need us, and I plan on doing everything I can to make sure they get the care and love they deserve.”
As Puppy Haven opens its doors, Love has set an example that transcends sports. In a world often focused on personal achievements and trophies, Love has shown that the true victories lie in making a real, lasting difference in the lives of others. For the strays of Green Bay, the real win is the hope of a second chance, and Jordan Love is leading the way to that brighter future.
