Commanders Lose Top Pass Rusher Dorance Armstrong to Season-Ending Knee Injury
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Monday that defensive end Dorance Armstrong suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Commanders 44-22 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.
Armstrong (92), is seen below on the far left of the screen in an attempt to pressure Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. After brushing past Dallas tight end Jake Ferguson, Armstrong lands awkwardly, and immediately began to limp and clutch his right knee before exiting the field.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end has is tied for sixth in the league with 5.5 sacks through Washington's first seven contests, including a two sack performance against the Las Angeles Chargers in Week 5. He has also tallied 24 total tackles, and 16 solo tackles, and leads Washington with 13 quarterback preassures.
Per Commanders senior writer Zach Selby, Washington has no plans on how to replace Armstrong on the Commanders defensive line, and whether that will come from players stepping up into larger roles, or looking for suitable replacements on the market.
If Washington is looking in house, that means that Preston Smith and Jacob Martin will likely seen an increase in snap counts, especially on Monday night against Kansas City. However, as the season progresses, it would not be surpising to see the Commanders sign a player of two from outside of the organization.
Armstrong now joins fellow defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr., who also suffered a season enring injury after a torn left quadriceps against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. Another defensive end, Javontae Jean-Baptiste, is out indefinitely with a pec injury.
