Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Makes Good on a Personal Promise
The Kansas City Chiefs seemed to have no trouble towering over the New York Giants on Sunday, September 21, with a 22-9 win on the road. It was a must-win game for the Chiefs, because they were 0-2 heading into the game, and there’s no way they wanted to be 0-3 after Week 3. That’s just not acceptable for a championship-winning franchise.
The Chiefs, of course, have plenty of people to thank for the victory, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid. But, it’s not all about football. All of these players and coaches have personal lives, too, and they’re constantly juggling their professional and personal lives to make everything work.
What’s cool is when they can combine some of their personal passions with their sport of football. Now, Mahomes making good on a promise that he made back in May to some very special, up-and-coming football players.
Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs Delivers
Mahomes is gifting more than a dozen high school football programs across the country with brand new uniforms and apparel, according to On3. He announced the move, which is in partnership with Adidas, back in May during his induction into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame.
The tally of schools feature his school, Whitehouse, as well as schools in Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Michigan, California, Texas and Missouri.
When first announcing the move, Mahomes said, “Seeing this Gladiator logo … which has become part of my identity on a Whitehouse jersey means everything to me. It’s a symbol of what we stood for when I was at Whitehouse.”
He added, “That mindset of giving everything you got and never backing down is something I’ve carried with me through every stage of my career. And now it is something I hope inspires the next generation of athletes across the country.”
Here’s the full tally of schools:
Whitehouse High School (Whitehouse, Texas)
Northwestern Senior High (Miami, Florida)
Broken Arrow High (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma)
Grayson High (Loganville, Georgia)
Cass Technical (Detroit, Michigan)
Detroit Catholic Central (Livonia, Michigan)

Inglewood High (Inglewood, California)
Orange Lutheran (Orange, California)
Longview High (Longview, Texas)
Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas)
Servite High (Anaheim, California)
Central Senior High (Miami, Florida)

Patrick Mahomes Talks High School Football
“High school football is key to not just developing players but teaching them about the effort and drive needed to succeed in this sport,” Mahomes added, as reported by On3. “That mentality of going ‘all in’ is what’s driven me throughout my career and is what I hope Whitehouse and other programs adopt as they take the field in these Gladiator uniforms.”
Ahead of the season starting, Fox Sports released its tally of the best quarterbacks in the league, and they named Mahomes the top pick, although he was tied with Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
“When you win two of the last three Super Bowls, you’re clearly one of the league’s best players. Statistically, it wasn’t always pretty last year, but Mahomes and the Chiefs somehow finished atop their division and conference,” Henry McKenna noted in the piece.
Now that Jackson and the Ravens have lost to the Lions, we think Mahomes should be No. 1.
Titans HC Brian Callahan, shaken by a string of defeats, hastily demoted himself ahead of Week 4

Brian Callahan has decided to remove one of his hats amid his team’s 0-3 start.
The Tennessee Titans head coach revealed to reporters on Tuesday that he is giving up play-calling duties for the team. Callahan will now let Titans quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree handle the play calling instead.
“A lot of things you self-reflect on with the start that we’ve had so far, and things we have to get better at, and one of the things that I think will help our football team, help me be a better head coach for our team, is I am going to hand over the play-calling to Bo,” Callahan said, per the team’s official site. “Bo has had some experience calling [plays], he’s been with a rookie quarterback before, and that part will make it a little bit seamless in that regard.
“The other part of it is our offensive staff, and our game-planning process and system, is going to remain in place,” added Callahan. “It is still [a] collaborative process, and we rely on everybody to do their part.”
The decision by Callahan comes after the Titans got blown out, 41-20, by the division-rival Indianapolis Colts in Week 3 to fall to 0-3 on the year. With Callahan calling the plays over the first three games for rookie quarterback Cam Ward, Tennessee has ranked 31st in total offense, averaging a mere 222.3 yards per game. That also includes the NFL’s single worst passing offense at a miserable 133.7 yards per game.
As a result, Callahan, who went 3-14 as Titans head coach last season, has managed to set one of the most hideous marks in NFL history. Callahan has also snapped at reporters who have questioned his playcalling this season, but now it looks like he agrees that the Titans’ play-calling duties are better off being handled by someone else.
