Cam Heyward Shares Perfect Nickname For Matchup Between Steelers and Bengals Featuring Two QBs in Their 40s
This Thursday's matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals features something you don't see often in the NFL.
Both teams will be led by quarterbacks in their 40s.
Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers is 41 years old (and will turn 42 before the end of the season).
Bengals QB Joe Flacco is 40 years old.
It won't be the oldest matchup in league history, but there has only ever been one other set of quarterbacks in their 40s to go head to head in an NFL matchup.

Ahead of this matchup between the Steelers and Bengals featuring "experienced" quarterbacks, All-Pro Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward shared the perfect nickname for the Rodgers-Flacco battle.
As Rodgers prepared for his weekly scrum, Heyward referred to the matchup as "The Icy Hot Bowl".
The only other pair of quarterbacks in their 40s to meet in an NFL matchup was Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Brady and Brees were a combine 85 years old for a Divisional Round matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints back in January of 2021.
The playoff battle was the third meeting of the year for the two quarterbacks, with Brees taking the two regular season matchups and Brady taking the playoff matchup.
Rodgers and Flacco could have actually already met this season as Flacco began the season with the Browns. The Steelers took on the Browns this past weekend, but the Browns had traded Flacco to the Bengals earlier in the week.
This also may not be the last matchup between the two elder QBs as these two teams are set to meet again in Week 11.
Flacco isn't guaranteed to still be the starter by then. He struggled in four games under center for the Brown. He topped 200 yards just once in this four games (which happened to come against the Bengals) and threw just two touchdown passes with 6 interceptions.
His first game with the Bengals was somewhat of an improvement. He threw for 229 yards and a pair of TDs, but needed 45 passes to do it in a loss to the Packers.
Rodgers has had no such issues in his first season with the Steelers. In five games, he has thrown for 1021 yards and 10 touchdowns while completing 68.8% of his pass attempts. He has also led the team to a 4-1 record.
It has been almost 16 years since these two QBs met for the first time in December of 2009 ( win for Rodgers and the Packers).
After all this time, these two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks will still be putting their names in the history books during the Thursday Night matchup between the Bengals and Steelers.
Colts HC Shane Steichen to make final decision on QB situation behind Daniel Jones

The Indianapolis Colts are rolling at 5-1, but quarterback depth has become a major storyline heading into Week 7. With Anthony Richardson on injured reserve, head coach Shane Steichen will decide who backs up Daniel Jones — either rookie Riley Leonard or veteran Brett Rypien.
The Athletic’s James Boyd took to X (formerly known as Twitter), reporting that a team source confirmed Steichen will make the call after evaluating both options in practice this week.
“Source said #Colts HC Shane Steichen will have the final say of who is QB2 between Riley Leonard and Brett Rypien.
We can also ask Steichen before practice tomorrow (and again Friday after Rypien has practiced the whole week).”
Leonard, a sixth-round rookie from Notre Dame, has been with the Colts all season and has taken most backup reps since Richardson’s eye injury. Meanwhile, Rypien signed to the practice squad on October 14 and brings veteran experience from stints with the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks.
The decision carries weight. Jones has completely revived his career under Steichen, leading the AFC’s top scoring offense. But should he miss time, the Colts must trust the next man up to keep their momentum going.
Steichen’s evaluation extends beyond game readiness — it’s also about locker room confidence and long-term continuity. Coaches and teammates alike have praised both quarterbacks for their preparation, making the final decision a reflection of who best aligns with the Colts’ offensive identity.
Leonard offers upside and youth, while Rypien brings system familiarity and game experience. The choice by the Colts coach will reveal whether he values development or veteran security as the team pushes for a playoff run.
Steichen is expected to speak before and after practice later this week, with a final depth chart decision coming no later than Friday. Until then, the quarterback room remains under review.
