The 2025 NFL season has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the Dallas Cowboys, which began with America’s Team trading superstar linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, taking a major toll on the team’s defense.
Although the Cowboys’ defense has been among the worst in the NFL over the first month of the season, Dak Prescott and company have kept the team in games by lighting up the scoreboard every week.
The Cowboys entered Week 5’s matchup with the New York Jets with the best passing game in the league, thanks to Prescott’s incredible start to the 2025 campaign. Even though star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is on the mend, the Cowboys’ offense continues to fire on all cylinders, and that was evident against the Jets.
Prescott threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions, connecting with Javonte Williams, George Pickens and twice with Jake Ferguson for trips to the end zone, resulting in a 37-22 win for Dallas.
Cowboys Coach’s Bold Message on Dak Prescott

With Prescott playing at a high level, as he has now thrown for 1,356 yards (2nd in the NFL), 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions, new Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been impressed.
Schottenheimer believes the Cowboys are “spoiled” with Prescott leading the charge for this team under center, as he said during the postgame press conference.
“I think we’re spoiled,” Schottenheimer said. “I think he’s one of the best players in the league. He’s certainly one of the best teammates and leaders I’ve ever been around. The guys believe in him. He’s playing with a ton of confidence right now. That’s why you can do some of the things that we do in terms of staying aggressive.”
Even though the Cowboys‘ defense leaves a lot to be desired right now, Prescott and company are getting it done offensively, even with all their injuries on the offensive line. Dallas will be a force to be reckoned with all season long by keeping opposing defenses on their heels, and Prescott will potentially have the best season of his career.

One of the biggest concerns for the Cowboys right now is the state of the offensive line, with four players upfront being backups. Prescott was asked after the team’s Week 5 win over the Jets about the offense’s ability to remain high-powered despite having many backups on the offensive line.
“It’s credit to these coaches, it’s credit to the players, it’s credit to the organization,” Prescott said. “Everybody. There’s not many teams in the league that can put four guys that don’t start into the game and feel confident about going and winning the game, especially on the road against one of the most premier interior defensive linemen and some good rushers as well.
“Credit to the front office for getting these guys, but just as important, these guys don’t see themselves as backups, as they shouldn’t. They’ve been just waiting on their opportunity. It goes back to April and OTAs all the way through minicamp of guys taking advantage of each rep that they’ve gotten and knowing that their time is going to come.”
Apparently, Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams has a philosophy for players who are backups and what their mindset should be throughout the season.
“Our OC Klayton [Adams] says it all the time, if you don’t like the position or if you are a little upset that you’re not the guy, wait 10-15 minutes,” Prescott said. “You never know. That’s the way this league goes.”
In Week 6, the Cowboys will continue their road trip, taking on the Carolina Panthers in an effort to secure their third win of the season.
