Chiefs Part Ways With Rookie WR After NFL Trade Deadline: Report
News of two Kansas City Chiefs roster moves surfaced on the evening of November 4, just after the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
KSHB 41 beat reporter Nick Jacobs relayed both on X, informing: “The Chiefs have signed DL Malik Herring to the practice squad. They terminated the practice squad contract of WR Jimmy Holiday.”
While the return of Herring is no surprise, the corresponding cut is notable. Holiday was a training camp darling this summer who initially impressed enough to find his way onto the KC practice squad.
During the preseason, Holiday caught 3 of his 4 targets for a total of 60 receiving yards. This included a 50-yard reception and 12 total yards after the catch.
The rookie out of Louisiana Tech, Western Kentucky and Tennessee (twice transferred) also displayed some promise as a returner, with 2 preseason kick returns for a total of 56 yards (28-yard average).
In college, Holiday returned kickoffs for Tennessee in 2021 and 2022. His best season as a receiver came with Louisiana Tech in 2024. The 6-foot-1 pass-catcher caught 39 of 65 targets for 476 receiving yards in that final collegiate campaign.
Considering Holiday lasted on the KC practice squad until November, one can never rule out a Chiefs reunion. Clearly, the front office and coaching staff liked him enough to keep him around this long, but for now, Kansas City will reluctantly part ways.
Chiefs Re-Sign Veteran Staff Favorite Malik Herring After NFL Trade Deadline

Herring was waived from the 53-man roster so that the Chiefs could re-sign veteran nose tackle Mike Pennel.
Barring another NFL organization claiming or signing Herring, his return to Kansas City was pretty much a guarantee from the moment he was let go.
In the football world, this is referred to as roster gymnastics, and Herring has been involved in it many times over the course of his Chiefs career.
Following a four-year career at Georgia, Herring got his first NFL action in 2022. He has never suited up for another team besides the Chiefs, and he has appeared in 28 regular season games and 4 postseason outings.
Herring is what you’d call a staff favorite. He’s very familiar with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s system, and KC seems to like what he brings to the table as a practice squad reserve and rotational defensive lineman.
Outside of that, he’s never really posted big numbers at the NFL level, with 1.5 career sacks, 6 QB hits and 3 tackles for a loss. Not to mention 1 forced fumble, 1 separate fumble recovery and 1 pass deflection.
Herring will continue to serve as organizational depth on the practice squad.
Ex-Chiefs WR Signs With Seahawks Ahead of NFL Week 10
There was another Chiefs-related roster move that occurred on November 4, ahead of NFL Week 10.
KPRC 2 NFL insider Aaron Wilson shared the news on X, but it was also listed on the league’s official transaction notice for Tuesday evening.
The Seattle Seahawks signed former KC undrafted rookie wide receiver Mac Dalena to a practice squad deal.
Similar to Holiday, Dalena was another training camp darling who was part of the Chiefs’ 2025 UDFA class. He had his moments this summer, but was never a huge threat to make the 53-man roster by the tail end of the preseason.
Eventually, the Chiefs cut ties with Dalena, and now he resurfaces with the Seahawks after the NFL trade deadline.
