BREAKING: Dan Campbell’s Brutally Honest Message Should Scare the Entire NFL — Lions Not Satisfied with 5-2 Start
Detroit, MI — The Detroit Lions may be sitting pretty at 5-2, coming off a dominant stretch of victories, but head coach Dan Campbell has just issued a warning

Lions Are Just Getting Started: “We Haven’t Played Our Best Ball”
In an eye-opening interview, Campbell made it clear that his team still has
“I really believe we haven’t played our best ball yet collectively in all three phases,”
For the rest of the NFL, that should be scary. The Lions, who have already demonstrated they can beat top teams, are telling the league they have yet to hit their peak. And with a coach like Campbell at the helm, you know he’s serious about pushing his team even further.
Lions Focus on Key Areas During Bye Week: Can They Fix It?
During their bye week, the Lions honed in on four key areas for improvement that could take their game to the next level:
-
Third-Down Efficiency: Detroit’s offense is ranked just 22nd in third-down conversion rate, a significant dip from last season’s 47%. On defense, they’re allowing too many third-down conversions, ranking
higher than last year’s 32.5% rate. Fixing these issues is priority number one. -
Red Zone Defense: The Lions’ defense is allowing a staggering 63.6% of opponents’ red zone trips to end in touchdowns. To be truly dominant, they’ll need to tighten up here, especially in high-stakes situations.
-
Jameson Williams' Involvement: Despite flashes of brilliance, Jameson Williams has had an inconsistent season, largely due to his fluctuating target share. Campbell emphasized the need to get Williams
involved more consistently, as he’s a key piece for stretching the field and opening up opportunities for the rest of the offense. -
Playing Complete Football: Above all, Campbell stressed the importance of
playing complementary football. He wants his team to execute in every phase — offense, defense, and special teams — and to keep improving throughout the second half of the season.
“We know we’re in the race with a lot of great teams, and we’ve got to stay sharp if we want to stay on top,” Campbell added.
Lions’ Path to Greatness: Can They Fix These Areas in Time for the Playoff Push?
With their eyes set firmly on the playoffs, the Lions are gearing up to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9. The game is crucial, as it will be their chance to apply the lessons learned during their bye week and start putting their
For the rest of the league, one thing is certain: The Lions are far from finished. If they can fix the areas they’ve identified, they could be a
Kansas City Chiefs elevate RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire from the practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs enter their Week 9 matchup with the Buffalo Bills without their starting running back, Isiah Pacheco, due to injury. The absence of Pacheco may have prompted the decision to call up a former first-round pick from the practice squad.

According to the team transaction report, Kansas City has activated Practice Squad players running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and offensive lineman C.J. Hanson via Standard Elevation on Saturday.
Edwards-Helaire was selected by Kansas City in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Louisiana State University, where he was a CFP National Champion in 2019. The former Tiger won two Super Bowls in four years with the Chiefs and was the opening week starting running back during his rookie season.
The veteran running back started the 2024 season in Kansas City on the NFL's Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, but was battling PTSD and was not being utilized by the Chiefs. He was released later in the year and picked up by the New Orleans Saints, from whom he was recently let go after this year's preseason.
Edwards-Helaire has accumulated 1,891 career rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns as he looks for more success in Kansas City for the second time around.
