Bills Expected to Make Imminent Roster Move on Veteran Safety
The Buffalo Bills brought veteran safety Jordan Poyer back this offseason with the idea that he can provide some trusted depth and familiarity with Sean McDermott’s defense.
But Poyer may be pressed into action soon as the Bills placed a key reserve on injured reserve and have taken hits to other areas of the secondary. Poyer remained on the practice squad, but was expected to move to the active roster soon to fill the void.
Jordan Poyer Addresses Imminent Roster Move
The Bills announced on Saturday that backup safety Damar Hamlin was headed to injured reserve after suffering an injury this week. Hamlin lost his starting job to second-year safety Cole Bishop, but provided some depth at the position while also playing as a regular on special teams.
That could leave Poyer in line to move to the active roster, though the veteran safety said he was sad to see Hamlin go down.
“First and foremost, you never want to see anyone get injured,” Poyer told Syracuse.com. “Big fan of D-Ham, A great friend of mine. Somebody who I played a lot of football with.”
The Bills have some flexibility with Poyer. He still has three potential elevations from the practice squad before the team would need to sign him to the active roster. Whatever decision the team makes, Poyer said he’s ready to take the field.
“I feel like I played a lot of football in my life,” Poyer said. “So, you know that is the case, I’ll be ready to play out there and play how I play.”
Poyer joined the Bills in 2017, one of the first roster additions for general manager Brandon Beane. He and fellow safety Micah Hyde, who signed at the same time, formed a core part of the defense that helped the team break a 17-year playoff drought and grow into perennial Super Bowl contenders.
The Bills parted ways with Poyer in March 2024 amid a series of cap-cutting moves, and he went on to sign with the Miami Dolphins. He played in 16 games, making 98 total tackles with three passes defensed.
Bills Could Turn to Another Safety
The Bills could also choose to fill in for Hamlin by moving rookie safety Jordan Hancock up the depth chart. He converted from nickel cornerback to safety after being drafted by the Bills and showed promise in training camp and the preseason, though has been hampered by injury.
Poyer, who has been helping his younger teammates develop, shared plenty of praise for Hancock and said the rookie would be ready for the opportunity.
“He’s a ball player. He’s going to play for a long time,” Poyer said. “He’s just athletic, extremely athletic, extremely gifted. He’s got ball skills, and he reminds me of a young me when I was coming into the league. I think he’s a little bit more gifted, maybe a little bit faster and can jump higher. Even being here for the last month and a half, I’ve seen his growth on and off the field. So, you know, I can see why Beane and this organization drafted him.”
SHOCK NFL: Elon Musk Declares He Is a Dallas Cowboys Fan, Will Use "Any Means Necessary" to Help Them Win the 2025 Super Bowl

In a stunning announcement that has sent shockwaves through the NFL, tech mogul Elon Musk declared he is officially a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Known for his bold ventures in everything from electric cars to space travel, Musk shocked both the tech and sports worlds when he pledged to use “any means necessary” to help the Cowboys capture the 2025 Super Bowl.
The revelation came during a live interview at a business summit in Los Angeles. When asked about his thoughts on American football, Musk casually dropped the bombshell: “I’ve been a Cowboys fan for years, but this season I’ll do whatever it takes—by any means necessary—to help them win the Super Bowl.”
The statement instantly lit up social media, as Cowboys fans, one of the NFL's most passionate and diehard fanbases, flooded X (formerly Twitter) with memes, jokes, and pure excitement. Fans joked about Musk potentially designing rocket-powered footballs or giving Dak Prescott a high-tech, AI-driven quarterback suit. “If Elon Musk is backing the Cowboys, the Super Bowl is practically in the bag,” one fan tweeted.
While the news electrified Cowboys Nation, many critics were quick to express skepticism. NFL insiders were quick to point out that the league’s rules prohibit financial interference or technological advantages that could tilt the playing field. Still, Musk’s reputation for innovation left many wondering what legal, yet unconventional, tactics he might employ to support the Cowboys. Could he invest in futuristic training technology, fund massive fan engagement campaigns, or even introduce innovative performance technologies within league rules?
Head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about Musk’s comments during a press conference. With his usual composed demeanor, McCarthy said, “We appreciate all our fans, no matter who they are. The Dallas Cowboys are focused on building a strong, disciplined team. If Mr. Musk supports us, we welcome it, but our focus is on football.” His measured response left the door open for speculation but made it clear that the Cowboys’ priorities remain grounded on the field.
Quarterback Dak Prescott chimed in with a lighthearted comment, saying, “If Elon Musk wants to put rocket boosters on my cleats, I’m all for it. But we’ll win this Super Bowl the Cowboys way—through hard work, toughness, and relentless drive.”
Analysts believe Musk’s declaration may have more impact off the field than on it. His words have thrust the Cowboys into the global spotlight, dramatically increasing their visibility and attracting new fans from around the world. Merchandise sales are reportedly through the roof, and ticket demand for Cowboys games is higher than ever.
Whether Musk’s involvement remains symbolic or turns into something more tangible, one thing is for certain: the 2025 NFL season just became a lot more intriguing. The thought of one of the world’s most influential entrepreneurs aligning with a franchise like the Dallas Cowboys has captivated the attention of fans and critics alike.
For now, Cowboys Nation is buzzing with excitement, driven by Musk’s unexpected endorsement and their own fierce belief in their team. And if the Dallas Cowboys end up lifting the Lombardi Trophy next February, fans may just look back and thank Elon Musk for being their most unlikely supporter.
