The Indianapolis Colts may have finally found their quarterback.
Daniel Jones has taken the league by storm in two games under Shane Steichen’s tutelage, and the Colts are off to a historic start.
As pointed out by ESPN insider Adam Schefter on X, the Colts are doing something that has never been done:
“How about this: the Colts are the first team in the Super Bowl era to not punt in either of their first two games in a season,” Schefter posted on X.
Perhaps Pat McAfee will want to come out of retirement to run it back with the Colts.
He might even be able to do his show from the sidelines while the offense takes care of business.
All jokes aside, this has been a show of Steichen’s expertise as a play caller and play designer.
He had already shown that he was deserving of the benefit of the doubt after keeping this team in playoff contention with Gardner Minshew at quarterback.
Notably, this also speaks volumes about how poorly and erratically Anthony Richardson performed for this team.
Jones had also struggled for most of his career, which, again, goes to show how things have been done in the Big Apple for years now.
The New York Giants chose to cut ties with him after failing to make the most of his skills.
But just like we’ve seen so many times in this league, sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery and the right coach and system to bring the best out of a player.
It’s still early, but after years of struggles at the position, the Colts might finally have their guy.
