Aaron Glenn Fires off 1-Word Message After Jets Blowout Loss to Giants
The New York Jets got blown out in their Week 2 preseason matchup against the New York Giants, 31-12.
Head coach Aaron Glenn used one word to describe his team’s performance on Saturday, August 16: “sloppy.”
“Sloppy. Sloppy, and we got to get better, and we will get better in the second half. On defense, we gave up two big plays, that’s the only thing we gave up, but other than that, we were sloppy across the board,” Glenn told CBS’s Otis Livingston at halftime.
“We gotta fix it. It’s simple, we gotta fix it, we can’t be sloppy,” Glenn added as he headed into the locker room.

After the game, Glenn reiterated that same message to the media.
“When you look at the overall game, it wasn’t good enough at all. I mean, that’s no surprise. On all levels, I thought we were sloppy [and] undisciplined. When I say undisciplined, I’m talking about some of the penalties we had,” Glenn explained to the media. “Overall, we have to play much better.”
Glenn Finds the Silver Lining in His First Loss as Jets Head Coach
“That is the beauty of this game. It’s the beauty of this game because it always teaches you lessons. One week, man, you can be riding high because things are going extremely well. Then the next week, man, it can put you on your [expletive]. It can put you on your [expletive]. The thing about it, man, if you want to be a winning team, you have to always do everything you can to stay at that level of always keeping things above board. We didn’t do that today,” Glenn stated.
“Everything else that we did that was wrong, man, we go back to work next week. That’s the plan for us to go back to work,” Glenn added.
The Jets were put on their [expletive] against the Giants.
Injury Update From Coach Glenn
The surprising player that didn’t suit up versus the Giants was pass rusher Will McDonald.
After the game, Coach Glenn revealed that McDonald is dealing with a “knee issue” and they wanted to protect him from himself.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini highlighted the other injuries of note: wide receiver Xavier Gipson is dealing with a shoulder, pass rusher Rashad Weaver has a hamstring issue, and defensive back Ryan ‘Bump’ Cooper is also dealing with a hamstring.

Update on Jets Penalty Issues
Last week versus the Green Bay Packers, the Jets finished with 10 penalties for 91 yards. The Jets made progress, but not much.
Against the Giants, the Jets finished with seven penalties for 65 yards. Seven is certainly less than 10, but that isn’t quite where the Jets need to be if they hope to compete on a week-to-week basis.
